Presentation Formats
Including poster presentations, oral presentations, workshops, community conversations, and side meetings

General considerations for all presentations
- All presentations should include a discussion about the relevance or application to circumpolar health and wellbeing and/or communities and peoples in the Circumpolar North.
- Where applicable, presentations should highlight the ways in which Indigenous researchers, communities, partners, organizations, Elders, youth, patients, etc. have been involved in the project.
- All authors, titles, and abstracts will be available in the conference program.
- Presenters are expected to use respectiful language and are encouraged to avoid using jargon, acronyms, or overly technical language.
- Presenters should be prepared to present to a knowledgeable general audience.
- Presenters should expect that audience members may take photos of slides during the presentations. If presenters do not want photos taken, they will be responsible for stating this at the beginning of their presentation.
- All presentation abstracts were peer reviewed by two members of the ICCH18 scientific committee.
- If presenters would like to present in a language other than English, please email info@csch.ca to disucss opportunities for translation.
Poster Presentations
Poster presentations are scheduled to take place over two sessions: Sunday, November 3rd from 5:00-6:30pm during the welcome reception, and on Monday, November 4th during a dedicated poster session from 2:30-3:00pm.
Presenters are invited to attend and present both sessions, and may keep their poster up during the reminder of the conference.
Preparing for your poster presentation:
- Poster dimensions must be a maximum of 112 cm (44 inches) wide and 92 cm (36 inches) tall in landscape orientation.
- All presenting authors must be registered for the conference.
Oral Presentations
Oral presentations will share results from research, policy or program evaluations, case studies, and experience with services or community-based programs.
Oral presentations will take place during the one of two concurrent sessions on each day of the conference. The specific times for presentations will be posted on the website shortly.
Preparing for your oral presentation:
- Slide presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint (.pptx) or Portable Document File (.pdf) are the preferred file formats.
- Presenters should bring their slides from an external USB and arrive 15 miniutes before their scheduled concurrent session to upload.
- Podium and microphone will be available.
- Co-presenting by multiple team members is permitted as long as both presenters are registered
- All presenters must be registered for the conference by November 1, 2024.
Important notes about the format:
- Oral presentations will last for 15 minutes total, with 10-12 minutes for formal presentation and 3-5 minutes for Q&A.
- Each concurrent session will have a moderator and between 3-4 presentations.
- Moderators will introduce the session theme, provide introductions and opening remarks, and facilitate the discussion.
Panel Discussions
Presenters are encouraged to explore innovative and interactive formats.
Preparing for your panel presentation:
- Slide presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint (.pptx) or Portable Document File (.pdf) are the preferred file formats.
- Presenters should bring their slides from an external USB and arrive 15 miniutes before their scheduled concurrent session to upload.
- Podium and microphone will be available.
- All presenters must be registered for the conference by November 1, 2024.
Important notes about the format:
- Panel discussions are 60 minutes.
- The panel discussion format can vary, though will typically include one moderator and 2+ panelists.
Workshops
Preparing for your workshop:

- Presenters should bring their slides from an external USB and arrive 15 miniutes before their scheduled concurrent session to upload.
- Podium and microphone will be available.
- All presenters must be registered for the conference by November 1, 2024.
Important notes about the format:
- The workshop format should include at least 40 minutes of participant engagement.
- Workshops may be delivered by multiple presenters.
Community Conversations
Community conversations are open to all conference participants (unless otherwise specified).
Community conversations are not intended for the purpose of data collection for primary research.
Preparing for your community conversation:
- Slide presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint (.pptx) or Portable Document File (.pdf) are the preferred file formats.
- Presenters should bring their slides from an external USB and arrive 15 miniutes before their scheduled concurrent session to upload.
- Podium and microphone will be available.
- All presenters/moderators must be registered for the conference by November 1, 2024.
Side Meetings
Breakout rooms are available to book in advance for side meetings for 60-90 minute blocks by any registered conference participant.
Rooms are available during:
- The pre-conference day (Saturday November 2) from 1pm to 5pm
- Sunday November 3rd from 8am-10am, and 12pm-1pm
- Monday November 4th from 8am-9am, and 12pm-1pm
- Tuesday, November 5th from 8am-9am, and 12:30pm-1:30pm
Important notes:
- Side meeting organizers should arrive prior to the scheduled start time of their side meeting.
- Podium and microphone will be available.
- All side meeting organizers must be registered for the conference by November 1, 2024.
